In The Opencontemporary Italian philosopher Giorgio Agqmben considers the ways in which the “human” has been thought of as either a distinct and superior type of animal, or a kind of being that is essentially different from animal altogether. Yeah, that’s all I got. A book of essays by Agamben. For those of you who don’t know it yet, I’m studying to get a Major in Letters and I had to read this in a course I’m currently taking.
The opening essay, Forms-of-life will help you if you’re dying to be [like myself] one of those cool intellectual anarchists that understands tiqqun.
But some of the moves are more suggestive than argumentative, and as plausible as I find his views, they won’t convince the critic or satisfy the curious. Goodreads helps you keep track of books you want to read.

In The Opencontemporary Italian philosopher The end of human history is an aggamben that has been foreseen or announced by both messianics and dialecticians. I loved this book.
For those completely unfamiliar with his ideas, he doesn’t do a lot to elucidate his jargon or justify his aims. Certain sections, such as the “Tick” section, should be interesting or dare I say captivating? He does a great job of controlling the flow of his argument, and I felt like he very rarely lost control of it.
Still the problem of thinking the refugee from the European model. The “Tick” chapter is really interesting. Quotes from The Open: Agamben’s use of long quotations is always bad and this was like five straight chapters of just long blockquotes from Heidegger. This book is not yet featured agammben Listopia.
Agamben seems to be continuing his theme of biopolitics and post-Auschwitz philosophizing themes when he shows an ambiguous stance on the contemporary closing up of the human-animal divide. Trivia About The Open: It was my first time reading him, and found his writing style to be very engaging.

It seems that Agamben is one of the few philosophers who has seriously engaged Debord’s corpus. Better to start with sth more well-established by him. Lists with This Book. Bringing politics face-to-face with senzx own failures of consciousness and consequence, Agamben frames his analysis in terms of clear contemporary relevance.

Some of the pieces are accessible without any background in Agamben’s thought, and none of them belabor his conceptual apparatus t A collection of essays and thoughts from the early ’90s, this book is a nice refresher in Agamben’s main concepts and concerns. But who is the protagonist of that history that is coming—or has come—to a close?
