If you are not Reformed, this is a useful book for you to understand both Reformed theology and how Reformed theology views your beliefs. A very interesting polemical work on soteriology. I highly recommend it to all students of Christian theology.

Through out the lectures Warfield is careful to represent each view faithful often provide quotes and footnotes from proponents of each view. Warfield’s eschatological view is clearly identified. I was hoping for more definitive answers on free will vs election in the determination of salvation. Certainly only he can claim to be evangelical who with full consciousness rests entirely and directly on God and on God alone for his salvation. This is an excellent survey on the most popular positions on the order of salvation Ordo salutis found in Christendom. Our redeemed bodies can hope for nothing but to wear out in weakness and to break down in decay in the grave.
Warfield, in this own thoughtful way, analyzes and interacts with each viewpoint and arrives at the conclusion that salvation is either from God or from ourselves.
Warfield has a lot of insight into the different perspectives on salvation. Although I agree with Warfield on most of his views, it is his eschatology that somewhat diminishes the conclusion of the book.
